UKYP logo redesign and portraits

Added 26 weeks 2 days ago

The group of current MYPs at UKYP Gloucestershire wanted a new logo - the old logo had been used for the last 4 or 5 years, and they felt they needed a change and wanted to leave their mark during their term in office. The subject of portraits were discussed, and we decided to take several portrait photos and see what I could come up with.

Election designs 2010

Added 26 weeks 2 days ago

This year's designs were a step away from the dark designs from previous years, at the request of the current group of MYPs for Gloucestershire. They wanted to be a part of both the design process, and of the design itself. I've posted other elements of the design here, so you can read more about this year's designs and the reasons behind the change.

UKYP manifesto designs

Added 26 weeks 2 days ago

UKYP Gloucestershire approached me to create a folded leaflet design for their 2009/2010 manifesto. It was to continue their new 're-branded' orange theme, and was to look bright and colourful. The elected MYPs (members of Youth Parliament) put forward a design they'd drawn up, and I created the layout around those initial sketches.

Invitation designs

Another personal project that I just had to include. The original illustration for this invitation came from Phil's very talented brother, a fine artist whose professional work bears little resemblance to this illustration (Rev Walsh: www.revwalsh.co.uk). I needed to age the illustration, and thanks to my experience with aging my own wedding invitation, I used the same method here:

Kaleidoscope programme sleeve

Added 35 weeks 15 hours ago

I may have mentioned in previous posts the rather difficult deadlines when designing sleeves for whole-school projects while the larger job of finalising the performance visuals looms nearer. Although this project was no exception, the programme sleeve design was a slightly easier affair, as it was suggested early in the project that rather than try for inclusion of all year group's work in the design, it would be better to attempt a stronger design with inclusion as a secondary concern.

Kaleidoscope logo design

Added 35 weeks 15 hours ago

Somers Park Primary School needed a logo for their Creative Connexions project, Kaleidoscope, and the idea of using some of the children's butterfly paintings was suggested. I superimposed all of the butterfly paintings to create an abstract pattern, then placed the composition inside the badge design.

This logo was used throughout the performance, and became the symbol for Somers Park's Creative Connexions project.

MouthOff pilot

Horizons Youth Centre is a very busy, chaotic and creative youth club, frequented by similarly busy, creative and chaotic young people. I've found them a hard group to crack, as there are many activities happening every Monday night and there are core groups who like to stick with their more comfortable, regular activities than work with a techie such as myself.

CC09: Amazon programme

Added 48 weeks 5 days ago

The design of the the sleeve of this year's Creative Connexions Kings St. Alban's school programme was a challenge as the print deadline was days away, and as usual for Creative Connexions projects, the deadline for performance visuals was fast approaching. So, I decided to use some of the generative programming I was producing for the performance as a tool to create this year's sleeve.

USA theme park wedding designs

Added 1 year 1 day ago

I thought I'd post these designs, even though they're a personal design and not work-related in the strictest sense, as I'm very proud of the work. My sister was getting married, and asked me to design her wedding invitations, menus and other wedding-related pieces. The theme was USA, as that was the destination of their honeymoon, and she had given me her itinerary as a starting point.

MobArt designs

Added 47 weeks 15 hours ago

When I started my first MobArt workshops, I found that the majority of young people had no bluetooth capabilities on their mobile devices, let alone any idea how to use it. This time round, at MobArt: Horizons, the situation was very different.

Every night the workshops ran, young people were sharing music between their phones, portable speakers played their music direct from mobile phone music players, photographs were taken, videos played - a wide variety of activities took place informally between friends on their own mobile devices.
