UKYP logo redesign and portraits

Added 46 weeks 4 days ago

The group of current MYPs at UKYP Gloucestershire wanted a new logo - the old logo had been used for the last 4 or 5 years, and they felt they needed a change and wanted to leave their mark during their term in office. The subject of portraits were discussed, and we decided to take several portrait photos and see what I could come up with.

I wanted to stylise the young people, taking away their basic features but leaving the impression of young people in their place. This would also make sure the photos looked less like substandard glamour shots and more like elements in the larger design, and as we had no studio to take the photographs, it would also hide the fact that the young people were photographed in an office using a consumer digital camera!

The portraits were traced in Inkscape, then their outlines were simplified and reduced to 2 colours. Finally, the outlines were merged to create a single-colour outline which was used in the new logo design you can see in this post. The separate head shots will eventually be used as an interactive feature on the UKYPGlos website. More details to follow!
