The design of the the sleeve of this year's Creative Connexions Kings St. Alban's school programme was a challenge as the print deadline was days away, and as usual for Creative Connexions projects, the deadline for performance visuals was fast approaching. So, I decided to use some of the generative programming I was producing for the performance as a tool to create this year's sleeve.
The artwork was taken from the entire collection of 4 year group's work, covering all creative areas of the Amazon theme and consisting of various media. I used black and white block prints created by Year 6 as a mask, and all other work as superimposed abstract colours, and programmed a generative application to create a random collage of all work. That's almost 500 pupils' pieces composed into one design.
As you can imagine, it took the application a fair while to construct the piece, and I waited a while longer as it continued to overlay piece after piece until I was happy with the composition. I've since used the application on another design for Creative Connexions 09: Kaleidoscope, Somers Park.
